Poila Boishakh (পহেলা বৈশাখ), or Noboborsho, is the first day of the Bengali calendar. It marks the beginning of the new year, Bangabda (বঙ্গাব্দ), and is celebrated with rich cultural processions, festive foods, and the tradition of opening new business ledgers (Halkhata).

In the Revised Calendar (Bangladesh), Poila Boishakh is fixed on April 14th every year.
In the Traditional Calendar (India), it is calculated based on the sidereal solar transit (Sankranti) and usually falls on April 14th or 15th depending on when the Sun crosses $0^\circ$ of sidereal longitude.
